Music, Movement & Mini Athletes - Our Sports & Music Program

At Joy Villa, we believe toddlers and kindergarteners learn best when they're moving, singing, and having fun — often all at once. Our Music and Sports program is designed to build confidence, coordination, and a genuine love of active play from the very first years.

Why music matters so early

Long before children can read words, they can feel rhythm. Clapping games, action songs, and simple instruments help toddlers develop listening skills, memory, and early language patterns. For kindergarteners, group singing and movement songs build social confidence — there's no "wrong" way to shake a tambourine, which makes music one of the most inclusive activities in our program.

Building strong little bodies

Our sports sessions are far from competitive drills. Think obstacle courses, ball games, balance beams, and simple relay activities — all designed to develop gross motor skills, balance, and spatial awareness at an age-appropriate pace. For toddlers, this might mean crawling through tunnels or kicking soft balls; for kindergarteners, it grows into simple team games that introduce turn-taking and cooperation.

Two rooms, two rhythms

Our toddler room focuses on sensory-rich, low-structure activities — shaking, banging, rolling, and exploring sound and movement freely. In the kindergarten room, sessions become slightly more structured, introducing simple routines like following a beat, taking turns during a game, or learning a short movement sequence — building the focus and listening skills children will need for the classroom later on.

The benefits go beyond the activity itself

Music and movement programs have been shown to support:

  1. Early literacy (rhythm and rhyme underpin language development)
  2. Emotional regulation (movement helps children release energy and settle afterward)
  3. Confidence (performing, even for a small group, builds self-assurance)
  4. Physical health (developing coordination, strength, and stamina early sets strong foundations)

A typical session at Joy Villa

Sessions run twice a week and are led by educators trained in early childhood movement and music. Expect songs with actions, simple percussion instruments, obstacle courses, and plenty of giggles. Parents are always welcome to peek in during pick-up — we love an audience of proud grown-ups!

Curious to see it in action? Book a tour with us and ask to see a Music and Sports session in progress, it's one of the liveliest (and loudest) parts of our day.
